Letter From Camp Leadership
Dear Parents,
It is with great excitement that we re-launch sleepaway camp for the 2023 summer. During the pandemic we took the opportunity to add more land to the camp ranch and build brand new cabins. The cabins are now way nicer than we anticipated, or even wanted, but given our mountain location, we are still able to maintain a rustic vibe. The boys and girls cabins are perched on a hill so campers will most definitely be stronger after their week with us! Sleepaway camp is our favorite thing and we are thrilled to be able to bring it back this summer. It is the beginning of the Sleepaway journey and, as with all new things, there will be learnings as we grow. This summer will be awesome for campers who want to have a say in lasting Ajax Sleepaway traditions and culture. Those who love to build, craft and create - 2023 is for you! For those who hope to attend a camp that has been operating uninterrupted for the past 100 years and every tradition is time-tested, 2023 is not the summer for you. Also, we are a rustic mountain Colorado adventure camp - not an East-Cost style camp with manicured lawns and air conditioning. If you are expecting that type of camp, again this is not the place for you. Now that we have told you why not to attend, here are reasons you should join us this summer. We maintain a philosophy of choice for our campers and staff. We really don’t like when camps force campers (and staff) to do specific activities. That is s a recipe for boredom and poor group dynamics. However, by giving campers the freedom to choose their daily morning and afternoon activities, we have empowered them to be in charge of their own fun. We also encourage staff to be trained in multiple activities and create brand new ones so that they stay super psyched on everything they’re doing - that energy creates the positive feedback loop we strive to build. We have been dreaming about the Sleepaway re-launch all through the pandemic and cannot be more excited for the re-launch in 2023.
See you in the mountains!
